Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
I do not think that ETs exist, however I will be delighted if evidence eventually
causes us not to reject the alternate hypothesis. I do not think that we face
any danger greater than what we can do to ourselves through greed, stupidity, fear and ignorance.
The SETI project is a great example of curiosity research. That alone probably justifies all
3 million plus of us hastening the entropy death of the universe.
No, do not transmit a beacon. Why should we do all the work? We are putting in huge efforts
to find ET. Let them do some work by trying to find us.
If we must transmit a beacon, then I think we could send in morse code, very slowly,
"Do you speak English?" In English of course. |
