Personal background
I'm from Orlando, Florida and am 37 years old. I currently live in the state of Utah. I'm interested in all of the sciences and learning in general. This is a direct outgrowth of my exposure to Carl Sagan (via the TV series COSMOS) when I was a child. I remember my Dad and I used to have long discussions about the program after each episode... and then I would go into the backyard with my telescope, and wonder.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run SETI@home because the prospect of discovering alien intelligence is so exciting. It's an immense privilege to be able to dedicate my humble little PC to furthering scientific progress. It's amazing, how simple yet powerful the distributed computing concept is! I believe that even if no intelligent E.T. signals are found through this effort, the results will still be of value in other ways, so this is a productive effort regardless. The chances of co-discovering a signal are so small, yet who doesn't feel a thrill at the idea of being the one? This is a huge part of SETI@home's appeal. I'm glad that this effort is growing and evolving and look forward to dedicating my processing power to SETI@home again on the BOINC platform.
