Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
When you look at the math it seems unlikely that there isn't life outside of our planet. It would also seem likely that there would be life that has progressed to our point and beyond. The only problem I have with the project at all is if we do find a signal, that signal would have been traveling for perhaps thousands of years, maybe even millions. It would only show that intelligent life existed at one time. Not what most people envision with first contact. The plus side of discovery is the end to racial feuding, after all we would really all be one people when we know that we have galactic neighbors.

I run SETI@home to help further the science of distributed computing applications. I do not believe given the limited scope of the project that we will find definitive proof of life outside of our solar system.
