Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Most of the people I know who think alien life forms exist say that, because they believe the universe is so vast that it's impossible we're the only life forms (some might add intelligent, but I don't necessarily agree).
On the other hand, I advise you to think not in space terms, but in space-time terms. In such terms life on earth (starting with bacteria) existed only several millions of years (or something like that).
I truly believe that other ("intelligent") life forms existed and will exist, but I also think that the probablity that their existence will be parallel in time to our existence is close to 0.
I would like to add that it is of high probablity that we will intercept transmissions of these life forms that were originated when they existed...
