Profile: George Eastlick

Personal background
From an early age I loved computers. I attended vocational school while in high school. From there, 9 1/2 years in the U. S. Army at various locations. I finally decided to take control of my life by attending college. I majored in Computer Science and Mathematics. I have worked in the IT industry for the past 5 years since graduating college. I currently work as an Oracle DBA. My world and my hobbies are centered around computers.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I am an intelligent, analytical person. I believe that any such person must believe there is other intelligent life in the universe. I don't know who will find who first but hope we are more grown up when we meet and don't force them to fight us. The biggest danger I see is the affect it will have on religion and the ramifications from there. I think sending a beacon is as good as anything else we might do, because if we raise the noise level high enough they will know to take a closer look.
My hope is that anyone with the technology to travel the vast distances would have long since destroyed themselves if they weren't controlled enough to use the technology for good. I believe if there is a war with alien races encountered it will have been us who started it. I run seti in the hopes that I will be the one to find a signal. I think it would be great to know that we are a part of a much larger whole.
I am frustrated that our current technology and computing power only allows us to do such a small bit of work, but at least we are doing something. To solve any problem you must start somewhere.
