Personal background
I am a work in progress, as is this description. I am fascinated by the sheer enormity of the universe.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Do I think extraterrestrial life exists? Absolutely. I don't know if we'll discover it first or if it will discover us, but either way we're bound to have contact sooner or later. The question, of course, is whether such contact will be beneficial. If YOU were an alien, what would you think of us, as a planet? That's what I thought...it's funny how we never think about how we might look to other civilizations. If they don't like us, it's possible they could wipe us out, but probably more likely that they'll just tell everybody else they know to steer clear of us...

I do think we ought to transmit a signal of our own. Suppose all the other races are like us in assuming that everyone ELSE is broadcasting a signal for us to pick up...then we're all listening and nobody's talking and no contact will ever be made. As far as the content of the message, it should be one of welcome and caution: "Don't show yourself immediately or you'll be subject to all of our paranoia and fear." I have an optimistic viewpoint... (actually I just watched "Contact").
