Profile: Marios Fotiou

Personal background
I come from Athens, Greece but I have been living in the UK for the last 5 years for purposes of studying.

I am currently reading for an MSc in Spacecraft technology and Satellite Communications at the Mullard Space Science Laboratory.

My main research interests is Signal & Image Processing, CCD's and Exoplanet Detection. The project on which I will be working this year is modelling, simulating and comparing with lab results, data for a CCD detector that will be used on the ESA Eddington mission.

I did my undergraduate course on Electronic & Electrical Engineering at the University of Surrey where I graduated on 2002.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I am a strong supporter of the opinion that it is impossible for our planet to be the only inhabited planet in the universe. The work of SETI is remarkable, despite the fact that the actual possibilities of detecting a usefull signal are quite small.

My work on exoplanet detection is connected with that of seti. If earthlike objects are detected then SETI can concetrate in searching at that area of the sky for possible sources of signals.

I hope one day we could celebrate the fact that we have proof that inteligent extraterestrial life exists.
