Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
To paraphrase a quote from the movie Cotact, "If we are the only species in existence then there is a awful lot of wasted space out there." If we are to discover other life forms, it will be done through your efforts.

I don't see any danger in trying to discover other life forms. I think the benefits will be enormous. As for sending a beacon, yes, I think it would be a good idea. For one thing it would be able to reach farther into space. Information? Let them know we are here and would like to contact them.

I run SETI@home because the whole idea of using idle CPU power is pure genious and I wnat to be part of it. I love tracking data. I have a spreadsheet that is updated everyday. I have four graphs that let me know how I am doing relative to everyone else.
