Personal background
Hi, I'm from Holland, I'm 40 years old and work for a computer company. As a little boy I was already interested in outer space, stars, UFO's and all those things kids think about. Now I understand it a bit more (can I?)I'm interested in the technology and the ideas how to explore space in the near future. Discovery channel is about the only channel with space-programs, but there is much much more to tell than we can see on TV. There should be a lot more programs on TV.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
There is extraterrestrial life, absolutely. But in what kind of life? The chance of life is big. Intelligent life? I don't know. It will take another 50 to 100 years before we can explore other solar systems. Then we'll have to find the right one.
We should definatly transmit a beacon and tell everything, who we are, where we are. If there is a life form intelligent enough to find us, it will be so advanced it does not think about war in the mideaval way we do. So it will not be a threat.
I run Seti because a huge project like this can not go on without. Although the chances of finding something will be very small, the project should go on.
