Profile: Art Masson

Personal background
I have a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering from Northwestern University and an MBA in Management from Loyola College of Baltimore. I've worked in various technical fields, starting with some initial work on the Saturn V program testing the 1st stage rocket engines as a co-op student in the mid-60's. I'm currently Vice President, IT Strategy for Kellogg Company.

I live in Saint Charles, IL with my wife, Mary Ellen, and our Bernese Mountain Dog, Della. Our two children are grown, and married. My son is a Sales VP for a Dallas Medical Services Company and my daughter is an instructor on the faculty of Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, GA.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I'm convinced that life exists elsewhere in the universe and that someday we'll actually be able to confirm this -- though I doubt it would ever be possible to set up two-way communication (unless we can figure out a way to break the speed of light "speed limit"!). I've been part of the SETI@Home program since May 1999 and am proud to be associated with the project. I think it's one of the most creative and powerful uses of distributed computing that I've encountered. While I think the probability of SETI@Home actually finding a source of extraterrestrial radio communication is exceedingly small, the project shows the power and will of man's intellect to even try.
