Personal background
I'm a computer programmer generally working on IBM AS/400's -- probably the best business machine made. I'm a free-lance consultant in Northern California (Santa Cruz).

I've been to the following places for fun: Africa/Mt. Killimanjaro (Summer 1998), Sailing in Tahiti on a 43' cat (Fall 1998), Sailing/Scuba in Belize (Fall 1999), Edinburgh for 4 days (31Dec1999), Sailboat delivery Maui to Seattle (Summer 2000), Sailing in Greece (Fall 2000), Europe: Venice, Prague, Budapest, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Spain, Paris, Amsterdam (Fall 2001), Sailboat race SanFrancisco to Hawaii (Summer 2002), Sailing in New Calidonia (Fall 2002), Sailboat delivery Canaries to Caribbean (Fall 2002), Numerious races down the CA coast & a bunch on the Monterey Bay.

I plan to have a party every night in October to watch the Lous Vitton Cup.

I've worked in: England for 6 months, New York for 6 months, Florida 2 months, Los Angeles 1 month, Cincinnati for 12 months, San Francisco 2 months.

I bike several times a week on road and in the mountains near my house. I've ridden my road bike around Tahoe Lake 3 times, and really enjoy single track in the Sierra Nevada's when I can get up there. Hiking is on the list as well. I also sail on my own Melges24 (basically a Ferrari on the H2O).

the picture in my user profile is of me on Talofa's main mast in SF bay. Talofa is a 92' square rigged schooner I sailed on in the Master Mariners race.

I'm single.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. Of course ET exists, the number of worlds out there that can support life are huge, its a certainty. It may be a hundred years or tomorrow before we discover it. Discovery of another civilization may be very useful or just may kill us. Either way; we need to do it.

2. Yes, lets transmit a beacon, maybe others are listening. The standard greeting of friendship would probably be expected.

3. I want to help find ET in my own little (only 600 results received). I just wish I could harness more power for the search. If IBM would lower the price of PASE then I would have a few AS/400's run it (or maybe there was a non-unix version for the AS/400).
