| Personal background |
| Let's see... in the past I have been paid to (among other things): develop software, sell shoes, unload hay wagons, architect software systems, repair lawnmowers, play "TAPS" for the American Legion, chemically strip paint from aircraft, program in COBOL (koff koff hack), wire-brush dirt off rocks, and once I actually got paid to play rock music at a KOA campground. Does that make me a Renaissance Man, or rather, a man of many foolish pursuits? |
| Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
1. I became interested in SETI@home in May 1999 when I followed a link from MSN entitled "Find aliens using your screensaver." I soon learned the joys of using the CLI instead.
2. I run SETI@home for the off-chance that we might actually find a discernible pattern in all that racket "out there." The STEI@home project is the single most incredible proof of the power of distributed computing, and that's another major reason I think it is worthwhile.
3. Obviously they are smart enough to avoid us. Douglas Adams had it right all along. |
