Personal background
Just found this after atleast 2 years of processing. I'm a student in mechanical engineering with hopes of going on to Aerospace. I'm glad that Seti took off as well as it has.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Q:Do you think extraterrestrial life exists? If so, when and how will humans discover it? What are the possible benefits and dangers of such a discovery?

A:Well to quote a good movie "Well.. if it is just us, just seems like an awful waste of space". Yeah you guessed it: i Hope for the best and Expect the worst. In any case we wont know unless we try, so let the search go on. The Many dangers are quite apparent to any who consider the ramifications. They range from Political and Religious to Biological and Socialogical. There Has to be some risk involved and any who doesnt see that doesnt belong to the search and definately needs to re-evaluate his/her Life

Q:Should humans transmit a beacon for others to find? If so, what information should we send?

A:My Feelings tell me we should send a beacon for others to find but my mind tells me that the idea isnt that wise. Remember SPACE is BIG and if we sended information on our geological state and Position in the universe. What message would we be sending and what would stop a more advanced more inpoverished "race" from robbing us of our beautiful planet or worst. EARTH is abundant in Life and wealth, we need to protect it. I then propose a compromise: Send information on our cultures, our beliefs, our languages along with the messages: "WE COME IN PEACE"&"WE ARE LISTING FOR YOU".

Q:Why do you run SETI@home? What are your views about the project? Any suggestions?

A: Because ignorance is the most dangerous word in the English laguage.
