Personal background
Blah blah, blah blah blah blah!

I'm 32 (almost 33). My wife thinks I geek around way too much, but what does she know? We've been married for 10 1/2 years.

I was in the U.S. Navy and now I'm not. I live and work in the sleepy Midwest. I work at a nuclear plant. Please, no Homer questions!

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Extraterrestrial life should exist. Otherwise, there's a hell of a lot of wasted (but beautiful) space out there. We may discover "ET" and we may not. The possible benefits and/or dangers have been the subject of many discussions and movies. We'll see what happens...

Should we transmit a beacon? Sure. Simple mathematical constructs should suffice.

I run SETI@Home because I love the idea of many people donating spare computer power to a noble scientific effort. I ran it for a while and then stopped to use the United Devices program to search for cures for cancer (another noble effort). I've returned to SETI@Home because I've switched to using Linux and there's no UD program for Linux.
