Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe that the odds are very much in favor of there being life elsewhere besides the 3rd rock. I think we will discover that life, when we least expect it.. and.. in a manner we have yet to consider.. life is usually thus.
I think the odds are heavily in favor of that life being far advanced of ours. Consider, if they are in the stone age, we are not very likely to hear from them; if they are at our level, likewise we are not very likely to hear from them; therefore odds are, they are advanced beyond us technologically.. and.. if we are very lucky, they are wiser than we are.

The benefits of finding such life are varied and plentiful; aside from an exchange of information, I firmly believe that it will represent that singular uniting factor that our planet has so long been in need of.

I believe the SETI@home project to be of immense value and an incredibly ingenious idea, the proof of which has already been demonstrated if in no other way simply by virtue of the man-years of data searched.
