Personal background |
I am a father of two wonderful boys. I am an Engineer for a major aerospace company, working in Grand Rapids, MI, USA. A few of my hobbies are swimming, biking, sailing, construction projects around the house, and camping. I am a member of the United States Masters Swim organization. My wife is a science teacher, likes to quilt and is a wonderful cook (which is one reason I have to swim). I started to run Seti@Home because I think it is a cool project and my computers needed something to do. I am currently running two (2) machines, a P4 2.1GHz (WinXPP) and a PIII 667 (Win98). |
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
Yes, I believe extraterrestrial life exists. Like many other people chunking data for SETI@home I think we earthlings cannot be the only life form (intelligent (if that's what we can call ourselves) or not)in this universe. I think SETI@home is one of the major projects that could find these life forms, but probably not in my life time (hopefully in my boys).
I don't think that we need to transmit a beacon, we are already flooding the airway with signals. If we transmitted a beacon, where would we point the transmitter? There is a lot of 'space' out there.
I run SETI@home because I want to help and I have computers that don't do much most of the time. Keep up the good work and let's make sure to recognize the small guy.
