Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home

I think there's definitely something out there, given the vastness of space
how could there not! When will we discover it? Purely selfish, but
hopefully in my lifetime. What impact will it have? The more intelligent
the life form then the greater and hopefully more positive the impact.

Yes, we should be transmitting a beacon. The question of what information
it should contain is difficult, how is it to be encoded? How can we expect
the receivers to decode it? It should be a mix of simple and complex data
about our planet and it's inhabitants.

Why do I run SETI, because I believe there is life out there and that this
is a way I can actually contribute toward confirming it. I also believe
in the spirit of giving back to the community where I can, if everyone
contributed something in their own way then the world would be a much
better place.
