I'm working in informatic with a physicist background, it's part of the reason I like SETI@home.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
In term of probability, I think extraterrestrial life exists. And I will say like
Calvin "The best proof that extraterrestrial life exist is that they didn't
contact us yet !" So let's search for them :-) I run SETI@home because I like the idea that a lot of people work together for this scientific project.
