Personal background
Carl Sagan showed me the universe when I was 9 years old. We can't be alone in this universe, that would be such a stupid waste of space. When Dr. Sagan spoke of evolution, he referred to more than just cells. He spoke as if painting a tapestry for the workings of our universe.

This is why I believe we have kindred spirits out there. I want to help find them.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think we will discover extraterrestrial life before I die. Let's see, I'm 25 now and a fit vegetarian, so at best, we have a 100 more years to go :D

I think that when (no IFs) we do discover them, we should listen to their broadcasts and learn about their culture before contacting them. This will help us understand whether or not they are nice people.

I also think the code for the SETI@Home project should be open-source. Who knows? Maybe there are optimizations that can be made that will double or even triple the computing speed.
