Profile: Anchorage Icefog

Personal background
I am 40 years old and live in Anchorage, Alaska. I believe SETI is the most important work being done toward the end of finding advanced life off this rock.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe there is life out there and, aside from a flying saucer landing in the parking lot at CNN, I think we'll first learn of this life through SETI.

The possible benefits are the obvious sharings of knowledge of other beings. The possible dangers are some form of intergallactic armageddon or disease.

I think we should transmit a beacon...that is if, collectively, we really want to be found. I'm not sure that we do. I sense we'd rather find them and voyeuristcally view them, rather than be discovered and find ourselves outmatched or vulnerable. I'm just not convinced the first creatures that find us and let us know are going to be friendly. If we did send a beacon, I'd send a simple mathematical code....and maybe a copy of Gilligan's Island.
