I am an IT professional with an interest in community-based initiatives like bulletin boards and projects such as SETI@home or Rosetta@home. Besides this I believe that scientific research benefits from a decentralized, distributed approach. It will make science more accessible to a larger group of people and in the long run help to protect from an ever increasing move towards religious fanatism in favour of common sense and empirical analysis.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Wouldn't it be cool to find the first sign of alien and intelligent life elsewhere through SETI@home? Yes I think and this is why I am participating :)
SETI@home and Astropulse are funded by grants from the National Science Foundation, NASA, and donations from SETI@home volunteers. AstroPulse is funded in part by the NSF through grant AST-0307956.
