A lifelong interest in sci-fi and a belief that it's ludicrous to think we're the only sentient life in the entire universe are a couple of factors that spurred me on to join in the Seti@home program. not to mention that i believe i saw almost a dozen ufo's in one evening! (story follows in SETI opinion)

a dozen ufo sightings, one night. the story now follows:
the first one i saw was the brightest/closest... i was sitting at a traffic light and just saw this light in the distance that moved unconventionally (circles, figure-eights) about one area of the night sky. when i arrived home minutes later i went out to the yard to look at it some more... it was below my line of vision, but upon looking upwards i saw several different lights moving about (also unconventionally), some staying in small areas, some moving about more linear paths. i discounted anything that could have possibly been commercial or military and still ended up counting almost (the aforementioned) dozen or so lights. never in my life did i wish for a camcorder as much as that night!

we'll have to be careful as far as any contact may go, if it goes at all. if any extra-terrestrial race were to contact us, it would be safe to assume they would have one of very few objectives in doing so. 1) hostile, 2)scientific, or 3)mistake. in any scenario we're not in the best shape. we're destroying our home planet (our ONLY habitat), we're destroying ourselves (war, street violence), we live by flawed politics... and we don't have much to offer any extra-terrestrial races, except for maybe chocolate and sporks. if there is to be any contact, we'll have to approach it with well thought out delicacy and diplomacy.
before i go on too long, i'll end my banter now.
