Personal background |
I reside in Papakura, New Zealand, 76 years of age, retired and have been interested in Astronomy for many years; probably as a result of my very long period of service with the Royal New Zealand Airforce. I am a keen digital photographer (amateur only) and enjoy travelling overseas. Living only a few miles from a airport close by I am also interested in World War 2 Vintage aircraft, and follow the activities of our New Zealand WarBirds Association who are based at Ardmore Airport avidly.
I bought myself a desktop computer and came across the Seti @ home site, and it took my interest. So decided to give it a go and have found it immensley interesting; particularly, now that I have also downloaded a program called "Winstars" which is very helpful in further study of the night sky and its miriad collection of objects within the solar system and beyond. A very useful tool to work with.

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
The way scientific knowledge and equipment is accelarating. Who knows? Maybe their is life out their somewhere, or was in the past. We certainly won't have that answer for a long time yet!
I believe that a capsule had already been sent out around the 1950's or 60's with a tremendous amount of information in the hope that some other type of civilisation may come across it in the future. However, I feel that further capsules should be despatched at appropriate intervals.
I run SETI@home because it makes me feel a part of that exploration of space and search for intelligent life that we are all so intrigued with in this modern age. |
