Profile: Cosmic Carol

Personal background
I'm 32 years old and living in Michigan, USA.
I like DANCING, singing, writing, reading, all kinds of music, museums, and cultural events.
My favorite sports to watch are U of M football and Olympic gymnastics, figure skating, and diving.
I like soft sci-fi, fantasy, romantic comedy, romance, comedy, musicals, and drama. TV shows about forensics fascinate me. Documentaries about nature or about the last two centuries also intrigue me.
I love playing Master of Orion II, Diablo II, and all the Sims versions.
I've got experience in Medical Transcription and Desktop Publishing, and schooling in Technical Writing and Editing. I'm currently looking for work.
I like to go for walks when the weather is mild, and I like to sit in a fire circle in the woods. I enjoy RV or cabin "camping."
I like to go to science fiction conventions. My complete favorite (so far) is Mediawest*Con, though I've also frequented the "Big 3" of the Detroit area: ConTraption, ConFusion, and ConClave. (ConClave is my favorite of those three. Last I knew, it moved to Lansing from Detroit and made a lot of people, excluding me, unhappy.)
My current circle of friends is made up of people who tolerate eccentricities in others.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I'm not sure whether I believe in ET's or not. The way I see it, there are two possible ways of discovery: We send out messages and they respond, or we send out messages and they visit.
Possible benefits would be learning a successful method of peace maintenance so we might avoid future holy wars, terrorist attacks, etc. That is, of course, assuming that ET's have it any better than we do. Who knows? They might be just as primitive as we are!
Dangers? Well, I guess the real danger is attracting someone who is openly hostile, just out to conquer everything in its path, and that that someone possesses more powerful weaponry than we do. When you think about it, Earth is only prepared to defend itself against its own inhabitants (which is pretty sad!). All Hell would break loose if we were attacked by ET's.
Like I said, I'm not sure whether I believe in ET's or not. I don't mind furthering any kind of scientific studies, though! This is definitely a fun idea to entertain, isn't it?
