Personal background |
Hello world,
I'm (in terms of a typical internet society) a bit older tomcat ('54 model :-))
Recently I work in a smaller Slovak company which is the partner of a great American enterprise. My job is an IT consultant. Born&living in Bratislava, the Capital of Slovak republic. My greatest hobbies are the computers (strange, isn't it? :-), guns, physics (I'm graduated doctor of natural sciences in Comenius University) and my five years old sonny (see a picture). Most of all I enjoy flying a flight sims or the philosophical disputes with him. Is it enough for the life? I hope so... |
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
1. Due to a statistical reasons it's unimaginable we should be the only civilization in the Universe. On the other side the same statistical laws restricts a probability we'll find the other civilization in a real period of time due to limited speed (in relation with a huge distances in the Universe) of any communication signal we can send or receive. And the benefits/dangers? It's the controversial question, too. I don't think a civilization which will be able to join a contact with us should "eat humans", but there will be a real danger of civilization shock for both sides.
2. In a light of a statistical probability the transmitting of a special signal looks very ineffective. Anyway, from the times the radio and TV broadcasts were sent out for the first time on our planet we are detectable in the whole Universe.
3. I like the SETI project and the SETI@home is a great way how to help a scientific community at a minimal cost. Also there's a factor of natural people's rivality to be better and higher on the ladder :-))
