Personal background
Hi.
I'm a 48 year old guy who have worked with computers since 1974 (really!).
I live in Denmark - home of the vikings, butter and bacon. In my work hours I teach multimedia at a Technical College in Horsens (Jutland). If you are interested please see www.vitusbering.dk.
In my spare time I read a lot about wine (and drink it too!), play classical guitar and work on my little farm (10 hens, 3 horses, 2 pigs and some rabbits).
I'm (soon) the proud father of five children, 2 boys and 3 girls. My wife is giving birth to a daughter in january 2003 - hopefully the last!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Extraterrestrial life does exist! So many stars and so many planets - how could it not!
But will we discover it? I'm not sure. A signal strong enough for us to catch from say a distance of 100,000 light years will demand much more energy than I imagine any existence could have for that purpose.
If we should catch a signal I'm sure it would be totally harmless, but it will give many religious communities a problem.
If the signal contains anything else but a homing signal, maybe we wil learn some new things that would radically change our world as we know it (good or bad - I don't know).
Nevertheless - since I was a young boy and my father taught me about the stars, planets and other objects in the sky, I have been eager to know if there is "something out there". My little contribution to SETIATHOME is the least I can do to find out.
