Personal background
Hi, my name is Thomas (call me Tom) Coombs, I am a 18 year old student in Scotland. I have only recently went into web design, and I own an anime website, which is located in the following link. Otaku Haven Anime dot net. I also created a personal webpage, which will be going under a few changes soon, which is located here.

As you may have guessed from my website, I am a big fan of Japanese animation, and just about anything sci-fi, from Stargate SG1 (my personal fave) to Star Trek to Andromeda. I also love technology and computers, I basically grew up around them. (my first "computer" was a ZX Spectrum, and then I got a 386 by the time I was 6). I've come quite a long way since then, and I built my current 2000xp system from scratch, Click here to see it.

Away from computers, technology, linux and the etc, I am also a great fan of animals. My favourite two animals would be cats (the domestic, non-killing-you kind) and wolves.

Err anyway, thats me. :D

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1) I myself used to not believe in extraterrestrial life, but eventually, i started to beleive in the whole deal, up to the point I became complete and utterly obsessed with the idea, reading UFO related books, watching as much TV on the subject as possible, and going to websites. Also, I believe that aliens have visited earth before, we just haven't been able to confirm it, and I also believe that they will show themselves when we reach a certain level of technology, such as colonisation of other worlds, or interstellar travel.

I haven't really thought much on the idea of aliens with hostile intentions, I always assumed that they would have wiped us out generations ago if that were the case, but then again, they might not have even looked in the Solar System at all. Hell, there might even be a parasitic (and hostile) race out there similar to the Goa'uld (from Stargate and Stargate SG1) would wouldn't mind the idea of enslaving/destroying us. But then again, if they were friendly, it would be very good news for us, and I would be sure that the majority of the nations on Earth would come together when in the knowledge of Extraterrestrial life.

2) Should humans trasmit a beacon for others to find? I think it would be a prudent idea, sort of our way of saying, "We know there is SOMEONE out there, and we want to talk", given our current status in space travel, (read: not much), it would be a great idea. Though it'd needed to be done in a "universal language" such as binary numbers, or even forming some sort of language using elements from the periodic table.

When it comes to what information we should send, I would say just a simple message about who we are as a people, and our co-ordinates.

3) I run SETI@home because I feel that I am helping in something I am passionate about.

Heh, and I wish there was a program that used as much processing power as I specified when I am not using the computer... (all those mhz going to waste...)
