Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I choose to discuss topic 3.
I run SETI@home because I like to see my computer achieving something that may help the human race epand our horisons (and it\\'s a great discussion topic!).
I think it\\'s a neieve view to think we are the only life when there are so many millions of stars out there with roughly the same properties as our sun, not to mention the others...
To assume other life may be using the same inteligence we do, I have no answer. It is possible that other inteligent life communicate ove large distances using a different means that radio. But radio is the most plausable considering the technologies we have, so it would be negligent not to search there.
Some say the search is futile as alien life would have contacted us if they wanted to talk. Surely there would be inteligent life out there covering the whole gamete of development levels, including as many less developed as more developed than us.
SETI@home provides a method of searching for both deliberate and accidental signals from these other life forms.
