I am a college student at Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa, working for my degree in mass communication, after having taken a few years off for the real world.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I'm not really sure whether we'll ever find anyone out there. Of course the law of averages all but guarantees that there must be other intelligent life, but that doesn't consider "where" or "when," and certainly not the latency of any communications between us and another civilization. I fear that either we will all kill ourselves off with nukes or germ warfare, or what have you, and another species else where would only be able to receive our initial transmissions - by the time we would have received a reply we would have been long gone. I hope it doesn't come to that, and I certainly do hope that we find and establish a regular dialouge with another society, even if we'll never be able to visit. What a pity!

As for SETI? An excellent project. I started it for the pretty colors in the screen saver and now, two and a half years later, I run it on all five of my machines. Its good to see that the bandwidth issues that SETI had been running into a couple of weeks ago have finally been resolved. So, cheers, keep up the good work!

...and good luck to all!
