Personal background
I'm a physicist who (like so many) turned towards the IT-Business - I now work on database projects. On the private side, I'm 36, married, and father of a wonderful (what else could I say of my own child ;-) son. I still hope that one day there will be more children than PC's in my home.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I was born in 1969, shortly before man first set foot on the moon. I think maybe that's why I became interested in space exploration and astronomy. My optional course at the university was of course astronomy, and besides that I spent most of my spare time with computers (I started that before there was a 'PC'). So when I heard about SETI@home it didn't take much thought to join the project - both the idea of making my PC do something useful in its spare time and the idea of looking for E.T. were intriguing.

About SETI:

New planets are being discovered almost daily, and why should earth be the one-in-a-million shot ? I'm not at all sure whether SETIs efforts will succeed, but we will never know if we don't even try. Science knows many cases where someone tried something new just for the fun of it - and discovered something that nobody would have believed the day before.

And, by the way, SETI@home has contributed a lot to the field of distributed computing; not only the first 'field test'. BOINC is a big step forward, and the Grid is evolving ...

"One small program for my PC, a giant leap for distributed computing."
