Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Wow, a few big questions here!

Yes, I am quite sure ETI exists - why else would I be here? But I think the chances of us finding anyone are quite slim. The benefits of finding anyone out there would in my view greatly outweigh any potential dangers.

Since distances are so vast the chances of any potential visit from anyone are neglectable. Whatever dangers may lurk, they are within us. We certainly dont seem to need anyone else to fight against, do we?

The benefits? The implications - philosophical, religious and scientific - are mindboggling. The sky would change for ever in our eyes (well, in mine, at least). There is one quote this reminds me of:

In "The Little Prince" it is said that one single mine poisons the whole sea and one single well sweetens the whole desert.

That is just it, for me. And it certainly is the well I am thinking of.
