Profile: Michael Oates

Personal background
I am a discoverer of more comets in the Solar System than anyone else (Currently 143 as of 2 Feb 2005) see my SOHO Comet Page. During 2004 I was honoured with a Minor Planet being named after me for my discoveries (Minor Planet 68948 Mikeoates), for more information on this see my SOHO Comet Page. I am also proud to be one of the lucky one's to have processed a Seti unit that's a signal candidate: Metacandidate (barycentric) Candidate SAHMb02+08b.

I am in my late forty's and enjoy very much taking part in this search, which I joined the moment Seti@home started 5.5 years ago.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I find it hard to believe that we are the only intelligent life in the Universe and that if we don't try to look, we may never know.
