Profile: Eric D. Leirer

Personal background
Hi everyone, I'm excited about having the opportunity (to help) to explore the universe in search of intelligent life. Now, on to the stats: Born 1972, I'm a native New Yorker and have served in the Air Force for ten years. I'm an F-16 Avionics Technician serving at Eglin AFB Fl and have been on station for three years. I'm a divorced father of two beautiful girls. Eglin is the closest base to my children; so I hope to spend the majority of my career here.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Of course there is life out there. Whether or not there is intelligent life? I don't know, and if there is then who knows if that life form would even consider us as being "intelligent."
Should we "xmit"... I would argue that we are sending signals all the time, so sure why not send a stronger signal.
I run SETI because I believe in expanding our horizons and not being narrow minded. It stands to reason on odds alone that there is life out there.
My only suggestion would be to give progress reports on how much of the total scan over the course of the project has been completed. I agree that nothing should be said about whether or not a signal has been found until it is confirmed.
