Profile: Mitch Kahle

Personal background
Aloha,

My name is Mitch Kahle and I live and work in Honolulu, Hawaii, with my partner Holly Huber and our two cats, Chelsea and Toby. Holly and I operate a small home-based information technology company called Island InfoTech. For fun we enjoy hiking, snorkling, and sailing (on our 19-ft Nacra catamaran). I play bass in a local jazz quartet. I am also a political activist for numerous civil rights causes, but with a focus on state-church separation issues . Holly and I are vegetarians (although I must admit that we eat some sushi and sashimi on rare occasions). I am originally from Jonesville, Michigan; I went to college in Boston (Berklee and BU). For a while I worked as an art director for an EnviroTech firm in Newton, MA, but after a vacation to Hawaii, Holly and I decided to move to paradise and start a home business. That was 10 years ago.

I've always had a keen interest in science, especially astronomy and biology. That's one reason why I am so atracted to Hawaii, with the Mauna Kea observatories (Keck, Subaru, et al) and our beutiful the ocean environment.

I've read almost every book written by Kip Thorn, Michio Kaku, Steven Hawking, and Carl Sagan, and would read even more on the topic if I had some new recommendations (hint!). I just finished reading "Beyond Contact" by Brian McConnell.

I am pleased to have this opportunity to participate in the SETI@Home project. I'm currently running the SETI@Home screen saver program on a Mac G3 via DSL-LAN.

A Hui Hou,

Mitch Kahle :-)

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Answers to SETI@Home questions:

1. Yes, but I don't know when or how we will discover it.

2. Yes, we should send the langunage of science.

3. Because I want to contribute to this excellent program. Keep up the good work. I only wish our politicians would take science more seriously and use it less for military applications.
