Personal background

I was a Plastics Colorist/Chemist for 28 years, with Colorimetry being my particular field. I've got two grown up daughters, and now, 5 grandchildren. I've been a Sci-Fi buff since I was old enough to read (5) and able to pick up my first Hugo Gernsbeck edited Amazing Stories. Now that I'm mostly grown up, I'd like to be the one who finds the first confirmed signal from a another world.

I'ts a foregone conclusion to me that it will happen...to paraphrase the immortal Dr. Carl Sagan; "It is the height of Man's ego for him to believe that he is alone in the Universe".
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe that it is inevitable that life exists elsewhere in the Universe. I can't conceive of it not. Frankly, I am surprised that we have not found it yet. Unless we are the oddball race who use radio waves to communicate, we should have found it by now. Space must be full of their transmissions....maybe we just don't recognize them.

If we contact (or are contacted) by an older race, we could possibly benefit by their advanced knowledge of physiology to cure disease. If they are benign, perhaps we could learn how to better get along with ourselves, although if they are aggressive.......not a subject to contemplate.

A signal beacon to announce our existence? Good question. I don't have an answer....Man is a paranoid animal.

I am running SETI because it is a selfless project, no politics, no borders or boundries. It is being done by the millions of people around the world with no thought of reward other than the search of knowledge. I like that. The fact that the SETI program functions so simply and so well has inspired other organizations to mimic its success by starting similar projects, Cancer research for one.

I have no suggestions to improve the system. It ain't broke.. don't fix it.
