Pushing 60, I\\'m one of the last of a dying breed, an American Merchant Mariner, with a lifelong interest (addiction?) to Science Fiction and books in general. Born in Chicago, raised outside Detroit, went to Shimer College (U of Chicago affiliate back then) and came to Alaska in 1974. After over 30 years in rainy SE Alaska (Ketchikan), moving to the Kenai Peninsula. I\\'ll take the occassional cold spell in exchange for 20 inches of rain a year vs. 162!
Currently sail Cook Inlet, Kachemak Bay, the Gulf of Alaska to Kodiak Island, and out the Alaska Peninsula to the Aleutians (Dutch Harbor)on one of the state\\'s oldest sea-going Roll-on-roll-off \\"ferries\\", the M/V Tustumena.
Somewhere out there there is intelligent life and we might as well look for it as there isn't any down here.
