Personal background
When I first found this program and read about the project behind the program, I was hooked. The idea that we're finally actually LOOKING for life out there, rather than just thinking about maybe doing something eventually, is great. I just passed the 250 workunit marker and going strong (it's running on 8 computers where I work in the IT department).

I'm working in local government as a computer support tech. Star Trek, gardening and taking care of our 11-month old (1 year old this September '02!) are just some of my pleasures in life.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Does ET life exist? Definately. We just need to find it, or hope they find us. Hey, if we're "intelligent" ourselves, why can't there be others having silimiar intelligence out there? (I just hope they haven't made all the mistakes we have so far.)

Should we transmit a beacon for others to find us? While some fears about a lifeform like the Borg finding us and wiping us out are understandable, should we not look? With current events, should we ever board an airplane again because of terrorists? Should we put our head between our feet and hid in the sand? Let's be positive and not show fear. If we feared everything, where would we be? The word "America" would never exist because we'd probably never look beyond the horizon, fearing we'd fall off the world. So let's do something about it and look for ET life. Sure, there is no guarantee that SETI will help us find intelligent life, but if we don't even try? Shame on us.

So be like me - use your screen saver wisely! Use SETI@home!!!
