Personal background
I am a recent college graduate with degrees in art and information systems, I unfortunately didn't major in something nifty-kewl like astronomy or computer science because I am very bad at math, but I'm very interested in astronomy, quantum mechanics, exobiology and other stuff. I'm also into philosophy and mythology. I've got one of those twisted minds that are good at both creative stuff and logical stuff so choosing a major was difficult except for that little math thing which made the choice easier by default. I keep forgetting to run SETI which is why I've done so few units considering I've been a participant since 1999, and having a really slow computer doesn't help either, but maybe I'll have extraordinary luck and find something interesting.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I love SETI@home, it hypnotizes me into a trance-like state! Hehe well ok maybe not, but it's kinda perty. I think extraterrestrial life exists, but probably not in recognizable form, and very unlikely we'll have an encounter of the third kind, because space travel is *hard*. I'm not sure whether sending signals into space is a good idea or not, but I figure it can't hurt, but I'm not sure anyone or anything would be able to recognize it as of intelligent origin and even if they did, they might not know what to do with it. But it's a fascinating topic in any case.
