Personal background
Hello,

I am a Southeastern Tennesseean. I graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1986 with
double major. Physics and Computer Science. I have always been interested in all forms of science.
Everything from space science to oceanography. Although living in Tennessee all my
oceanographic studies had to take place in books. :) I am also a sci-fi fan. I prefer Star Trek to Star
Wars because of the Sci-Fi aspect as opposed to the Sci-Fantasy view. But, I do enjoy the Star
Wars movies as well. I am also a very big fan of Douglas Adams! i.e.. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the
Galaxy Saga. My ideal vacation would be a week aboard the Space Station.

I am happily married with three children. We live in Etowah, TN.

Thanks for taking the time,

Scott Wall

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. I do believe that life exists elsewhere throughout the Universe. I hope we will discover it im my
lifetime. The probable method of contact will be radio astronomy. The benefits are almost obvious.
They would be technological advances, scientific advances and cultural histories. The prior two
depending upon whether or not the civilization is more advanced than our own. The dangers
depend on the level of their hostility. Would they be Xenophobic? It is one of the equations that can
not be calculated simply because no two contact would be alike.

2. Yes. The same binary data that was transmitted the the earlier probes. i.e. The DNA molecule.
MAN WOMAN etc.

3. I want to help expedite the discovery as much as I can. I would like to suggest a rewrite of the
software to include a graphical interface that would display the type of object currently being
observed. It does not have to be the actual object, just a computer rendering of that type of object. It
could also have Star type spectral class and so on. This would be very interesting, as well as
educational. I also hope a graphic could be displayed to show the area of sky where the current
signal was collected. Just my two cents worth.

Thank you,

Scott Wall
