Profile: Grahame

Personal background
I'm Grahame, from Minneapolis. I'm 39, and work as a graphic designer, mostly in software (mobile apps and websites). I love my job, and it's such an awesome thing to be able to create something from nothing every day! Or to take someone's idea and make it a reality that they can see with their eyes. It's a gift. I also play music, and I enjoy riding my motorcycles around the city. I'm a big sci-fi nerd, and I love Star Wars, Star Trek, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and all kinds of stuff like that.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I absolutely, completely believe that there is intelligent alien life out there. It's incredibly silly to think that we're the only sentient beings in this ever-expanding universe. I am a person of faith, and I do believe in God, but I also believe that the basic building blocks of science were given to us so that we could begin to try to understand our place among each other, in this world, and in the greater universe. The idea that some religious folks profess that basically says that science is anti-God is just plain stupid. I'm not possessed of a great scientific mind by any means, but what I've studied about our earth, our solar system, the ways our bodies work, and the patterns of life and shape that have been found throughout history point to a God who very much cares about science and creation. And that, then, leads me to believe that there are other civilizations out there, and they are possibly wondering whether or not WE exist.

So why do I run SETI@home? Because I believe. And I want to do my part to help reach out and find others. I want to be a listener.

I think the project is wonderful, and it's a way that unscientific minds like mine can help with the project. I am a creative artist. There is no place for me at NASA, and if I applied there, I'm sure I'd be shown the door. But with SETI I can participate and not be limited by my grasp of astrophysics.

If I have any suggestions I'll share them!
