I was born in Hungary, before the fall of the Iron Curtain. While I was still young, my family fled - amid machine gun fire - from the totalitarian atheism of communist Soviet socialism (USSR). We lived for several months in a refugee camp in Traiskirchen (near Vienna) Austria. As my Dad had a masters in Engineering, he got a job offer in the America relatively quickly.
I worked for NASA at Cape Canaveral, before going back to graduate school.
I have a PhD in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. I am also a registered Professional Engineer (P.E.).
I spent 4 weeks interpreting for the centennial Olympic Games; I still speak (and read and write) Magyar.
Veronica (my wife) and I have visited and toured both the Arecibo radio receiver in Puerto Rico as well as LIGO in Livingston Louisiana.

...the LORD saw how great was man's wickedness on earth, his heart was grieved. But Noah found favor with the LORD.
When God saw how corrupt the earth had become, since all mortals led depraved lives, he said to Noah: "I have decided to put an end to all mortals on earth; the earth is full of lawlessness because of them.
"Make yourself an ark, put compartments in it and cover it with pitch: the length shall be three hundred cubits, its width fifty and its height thirty cubits. I am about to bring the flood waters, to destroy everywhere all creatures. But with you I will establish my covenant; you and your sons, your wife and your sons' wives. Of all other living creatures you shall bring two into the ark, one male and one female, that you may keep them alive. Moreover, you are to provide yourself with all the food that is to be eaten."
Then the LORD said to Noah: "Go into the ark. Seven days from now I will bring rain down for 40 days and nights and I will wipe out from the surface of the earth every moving creature that I have made."
With his sons, his wife, and his sons' wives, Noah went into the ark. Of the animals, two by two male and female entered the ark with Noah, just as the LORD had commanded. As soon as the seven days were over, the waters of the flood came.
For forty days and forty nights heavy rain poured down on the earth. All creatures on earth perished: only Noah and those with him in the ark were left.
God remembered Noah and all the animals with him. So God made a wind sweep over the earth and the waters began to subside. At the end of 150 days the waters had so diminished that the ark came to rest.
Noah opened the hatch in the ark, and he sent out a dove, to see if the waters had lessened. But the dove could find no place to alight and it returned. He waited 7 days and again sent the dove out... and this time it did not come back.
Then God said to Noah: "Go out of the ark. Bring out with you every living thing that is with you and let them abound on the earth, breeding and multiplying on it."
Then Noah built an altar to the LORD, and he offered holocausts.
God blessed Noah and said: "Be fertile and multiply and fill the earth. Every creature that is alive shall be yours to eat; I give them all to you as I did the green plants.
God said, "See, I am now establishing my covenant with you and your descendants, never again shall all bodily creatures be destroyed by the waters of a flood. This is the sign that I am giving for all ages to come - I set my bow in the clouds to serve as a sign of the everlasting covenant that I have established."

This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about. When his mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, but before they lived together, she was with child through the holy Spirit.
Joseph her husband, a righteous man, yet unwilling to expose her to shame, decided to divorce her quietly. Such was his intention when the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary your wife into your home. For it is through the holy Spirit that this child has been conceived in her.
She will bear a son and you are to name him Jesus, (Yahweh saves) because he will save his people from their sins."
All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet:
"Behold, the virgin shall be with child and bear a son,
and they shall name him Emmanuel,"
which means "God is with us."

Dios es amor. Christ, risen savior of humankind, is Lord of Lords and King of Kings. He is the Messiah, the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. He will come again in glory. When the time for Pentecost was fulfilled, they were all in one place together.

They were astounded, and in amazement they asked, "Are not all these people who are speaking Galileans? Then how does each of us hear them in his own native language?
Then Peter stood up with the Eleven and proclaimed to them, "You who are Jews, indeed all of you staying in Jerusalem. Let this be known to you, and listen to my words. This is what was spoken through the prophet Joel:
'It will come to pass in the last days,' God says,
'that I will pour out a portion of my spirit upon all flesh.
Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
your young men shall see visions,
your old men shall dream dreams.
Indeed, upon my servants and my handmaids
I will pour out a portion of my spirit in those days,

Son chismosos, calumniadores, enemigos de Dios, insolentes, soberbios y arrogantes; se ingenian maldades; se rebelan contra sus padres; son insensatos, desleales, insensibles, despiadados. Saben bien que, segu'n el justo decreto de Dios, quienes practican tales cosas merecen la muerte; sin embargo, no so'lo siguen practicándolas sino que incluso aprueban a quienes las practican.

For He has looked upon His handmaid's lowliness; behold, from now on will all ages call me blessed.
The Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name.
His mercy is from age to age to those who fear him.
The hungry he has filled with good things; the rich he has sent away empty.
Then Zechariah, filled with the holy Spirit, prophesied, saying:
"Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel,
for he has visited and brought redemption to his people.
He has raised up a horn for our salvation
within the house of David his servant
Joseph went up from Galilee from the town of Nazareth to Judea, to the city of David that is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David, to be enrolled with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child.
While they were there, the time came for her to have her child, and she gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
Now there were shepherds in that region living in the fields and keeping the night watch over their flock.
The angel of the Lord appeared to them and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were struck with great fear.
The angel said to them, "Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.
For today in the city of David a savior has been born for you who is Messiah and Lord.
And this will be a sign for you: you will find an infant wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger."
And suddenly there was a multitude of the heavenly host with the angel, praising God and saying:
"Glory to God in the highest
and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests."
When the angels went away from them to heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let us go, then, to Bethlehem to see this thing that has taken place, which the Lord has made known to us."
So they went in haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the infant lying in the manger.
When they saw this, they made known the message that had been told them about this child.
All who heard it were amazed by what had been told them by the shepherds.
And Mary kept all these things, reflecting on them in her heart.
Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, just as it had been told to them.
When eight days were completed for his circumcision, he was named Jesus, the name given him by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.
When the days were completed for their purification according to the law of Moses, they took him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord, just as it is written in the law of the Lord, "Every male that opens the womb shall be consecrated to the Lord," .
Now there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man was righteous and devout, awaiting the consolation of Israel, and the holy Spirit was upon him.
It had been revealed to him by the holy Spirit that he should not see death before he had seen the Messiah of the Lord.
He came in the Spirit into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus to perform the custom of the law in regard to him,
he took him into his arms and blessed God, saying:
"Now, Master, you may let your servant go
in peace, according to your word,
for my eyes have seen your salvation,
which you prepared in sight of all the peoples,
a light for revelation to the Gentiles,
and glory for your people Israel."
And Jesus came down with them. A great crowd of his disciples and a large number of the people from all Judea and Jerusalem and the coastal region of Tyre and Sidon came to hear him and to be healed of their diseases; and even those who were tormented by unclean spirits were cured.
And raising his eyes toward his disciples he said:
"Blessed are you who are poor, for the kingdom of God is yours.
Blessed are you who are now hungry, for you will be satisfied.
Blessed are you who are now weeping, for you will laugh.
Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude and insult you,
and denounce your name as evil on account of the Son of Man.
Rejoice and leap for joy on that day! Behold, your reward
will be great in heaven. For their ancestors treated the
prophets in the same way.
But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation.
But woe to you who are filled now, for you will be hungry.
Woe to you who laugh now, for you will grieve and weep.
Woe to you when all speak well of you,
for their ancestors treated the false
prophets in this way.
"But to you who hear I say, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,
bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.
To the person who strikes you on one cheek, offer the other one as well, and from the person who takes your cloak, do not withhold even your tunic.
Give to everyone who asks of you, and from the one who takes what is yours do not demand it back.
Do to others as you would have them do to you.
For if you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them.
And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do the same.
But rather, love your enemies and do good to them, and lend expecting nothing back; then your reward will be great and you will be children of the Most High, for he himself is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked.
Be merciful, just as (also) your Father is merciful.
Jesus Questioned by Pilate.
Now Jesus stood before the governor, and he questioned him, "Are you the king of the Jews?"
Jesus said, "You say so." And when he was accused by the chief priests and elders, he made no answer.
Then Pilate said to him, "Do you not hear how many things they are testifying against you?"
But he did not answer him one word, so that the governor was greatly amazed.
Now on the occasion of the feast the governor was accustomed to release to the crowd one prisoner whom they wished. And at that time they had a notorious prisoner called (Jesus) Barabbas. So when they had assembled, Pilate said to them, "Which one do you want me to release to you, (Jesus) Barabbas, or Jesus called Messiah?" For he knew that it was out of envy that they had handed him over.
While he was still seated on the bench, his wife sent him a message, "Have nothing to do with that righteous man. I suffered much in a dream today because of him." The chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowds to ask for Barabbas but to destroy Jesus. The governor said to them in reply, "Which of the two do you want me to release to you?" They answered, "Barabbas!" Pilate said to them, "Then what shall I do with Jesus called Messiah?" They all said, "Let him be crucified!" But he said, "Why? What evil has he done?" They only shouted the louder, "Let him be crucified!"
When Pilate saw that he was not succeeding at all, but that a riot was breaking out instead, he took water and washed his hands in the sight of the crowd, saying, "I am innocent of this man's blood. Look to it yourselves." And the whole people said in reply, "His blood be upon us and upon our children." Then he released Barabbas to them, but after he had Jesus scourged, he handed him over to be crucified.
And when they came to a place called Golgotha (which means Place of the Skull), they gave Jesus wine to drink mixed with gall. But when he had tasted it, he refused to drink. After they had crucified him, they divided his garments by casting lots; then they sat down and kept watch over him there.
And they placed over his head the written charge against him: This is Jesus, the King of the Jews.
Two revolutionaries were crucified with him, one on his right and the other on his left. Those passing by reviled him, shaking their heads and saying, "You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save yourself, if you are the Son of God, (and) come down from the cross!"
From noon onward, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon. And about three o'clock Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?" which means, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" Some of the bystanders who heard it said, "This one is calling for Elijah." Immediately one of them ran to get a sponge; he soaked it in wine, and putting it on a reed, gave it to him to drink. But the rest said, "Wait, let us see if Elijah comes to save him." But Jesus cried out again in a loud voice, and gave up his spirit.
And behold, the veil of the sanctuary was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth quaked, rocks were split, tombs were opened, and the bodies of many saints who had fallen asleep were raised. And coming forth from their tombs after his resurrection, they entered the holy city and appeared to many.
The centurion and the men with him who were keeping watch over Jesus feared greatly when they saw the earthquake and all that was happening, and they said, "Truly, this was the Son of God!" There were many women there, looking on from a distance, who had followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering to him. Among them were Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of the sons of Zebedee.
When it was evening, there came a rich man from Arimathea named Joseph, who was himself a disciple of Jesus. He went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus; then Pilate ordered it to be handed over. Taking the body, Joseph wrapped it (in) clean linen and laid it in his new tomb that he had hewn in the rock. Then he rolled a huge stone across the entrance to the tomb and departed. But Mary Magdalene and the other Mary remained sitting there, facing the tomb.
The next day, the one following the day of preparation, the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered before Pilate and said, "Sir, we remember that this impostor while still alive said, 'After three days I will be raised up.' Give orders, then, that the grave be secured until the third day, lest his disciples come and steal him and say to the people, 'He has been raised from the dead.' This last imposture would be worse than the first." Pilate said to them, "The guard is yours; go secure it as best you can." So they went and secured the tomb by fixing a seal to the stone and setting the guard.
After the sabbath, as the first day of the week was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb. And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, approached, rolled back the stone, and sat upon it. His appearance was like lightning and his clothing was white as snow. The guards were shaken with fear of him and became like dead men.
Then the angel said to the women in reply, "Do not be afraid! I know that you are seeking Jesus the crucified. He is not here, for he has been raised just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples, 'He has been raised from the dead, and he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him.' Behold, I have told you."
Then they went away quickly from the tomb, fearful yet overjoyed, and ran to announce this to his disciples. And behold, Jesus met them on their way and greeted them. They approached, embraced his feet, and did him homage. Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid. Go tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me."
While they were going, some of the guard went into the city and told the chief priests all that had happened. They assembled with the elders and took counsel; then they gave a large sum of money to the soldiers, telling them, "You are to say, 'His disciples came by night and stole him while we were asleep.' And if this gets to the ears of the governor, we will satisfy (him) and keep you out of trouble." The soldiers took the money and did as they were instructed. And this story has circulated among the Jews to the present (day).
The eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had ordered them. When they saw him, they worshiped, but they doubted. Then Jesus approached and said to them, "All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age."

Pilato tomó entonces a Jesús y mandó que lo azotaran. 2 Los soldados, que habÃan tejido una corona de espinas, se la pusieron a Jesús en la
cabeza y lo vistieron con un manto de color púrpura.
3 --¡Viva el rey de los judÃos! le gritaban, mientras se le acercaban para abofetearlo.
4 Pilato volvió a salir.
--Aquà lo tienen --dijo a los judÃos--. Lo he sacado para que sepan que no lo encuentro culpable de nada.
5 Cuando salió Jesús, llevaba puestos la corona de espinas y el manto de color púrpura.
--¡Aquà tienen al hombre! --les dijo Pilato.
6 Tan pronto como lo vieron, los jefes de los sacerdotes y los guardias gritaron a voz en cuello:
--¡CrucifÃcalo! ¡CrucifÃcalo!
--Pues llévenselo y crucifÃquenlo ustedes --replicó Pilato--. Por mi parte, no lo encuentro culpable de nada.
7 --Nosotros tenemos una ley, y según esa ley debe morir, porque se ha hecho pasar por Hijo de Dios --insistieron los judÃos.
8 Al oÃr esto, Pilato se atemorizó aún más, 9 asà que entró de nuevo en el palacio y le preguntó a Jesús:
--¿De dónde eres tú?
Pero Jesús no le contestó nada.
10 --¿Te niegas a hablarme? --le dijo Pilato--. ¿No te das cuenta de que tengo poder para ponerte en libertad o para mandar que te crucifiquen?
11 --No tendrÃas ningún poder sobre mà si no se te hubiera dado de arriba --le contestó Jesús--. Por eso el que me puso en tus manos es
culpable de un pecado más grande.
12 Desde entonces Pilato procuraba poner en libertad a Jesús, pero los judÃos gritaban desaforadamente:
--Si dejas en libertad a este hombre, no eres amigo del emperador. Cualquiera que pretende ser rey se hace su enemigo.
13 Al oÃr esto, Pilato llevó a Jesús hacia fuera y se sentó en el tribunal, en un lugar al que llamaban el Empedrado (que en arameo se dice
Gabatá). 14 Era el dÃa de la preparación para la Pascua, cerca del mediodÃa.
--Aquà tienen a su rey --dijo Pilato a los judÃos.
15 --¡Fuera! ¡Fuera! ¡CrucifÃcalo! --vociferaron.
--¿Acaso voy a crucificar a su rey? --replicó Pilato.
--No tenemos más rey que el emperador romano --contestaron los jefes de los sacerdotes.
16 Entonces Pilato se lo entregó para que lo crucificaran, y los soldados se lo llevaron.
[b]La crucifixión
17 Jesús salió cargando su propia cruz hacia el lugar de la Calavera (que en arameo se llama Gólgota). 18 Allà lo crucificaron, y con él a
otros dos, uno a cada lado y Jesús en medio.
19 Pilato mandó que se pusiera sobre la cruz un letrero en el que estuviera escrito: "Jesús de Nazaret, Rey de los judÃos." 20 Muchos de los
judÃos lo leyeron, porque el sitio en que crucificaron a Jesús estaba cerca de la ciudad. El letrero estaba escrito en arameo, latÃn y griego.
21 --No escribas “Rey de los judÃos†--protestaron ante Pilato los jefes de los sacerdotes judÃos--. Era él quien decÃa ser rey de los judÃos.
22 --Lo que he escrito, escrito queda --les contestó Pilato.
23 Cuando los soldados crucificaron a Jesús, tomaron su manto y lo partieron en cuatro partes, una para cada uno de ellos. Tomaron también la
túnica, la cual no tenÃa costura, sino que era de una sola pieza, tejida de arriba abajo.
24 --No la dividamos --se dijeron unos a otros--. Echemos suertes para ver a quién le toca.
Y asà lo hicieron los soldados. Esto sucedió para que se cumpliera la Escritura que dice:
"Se repartieron entre ellos mi manto,
y sobre mi ropa echaron suertes."
25 Junto a la cruz de Jesús estaban su madre, la hermana de su madre, MarÃa la esposa de Cleofas, y MarÃa Magdalena. 26 Cuando Jesús vio a su
madre, y a su lado al discÃpulo a quien él amaba, dijo a su madre:
--Mujer, ahà tienes a tu hijo.
27 Luego dijo al discÃpulo:
--Ahà tienes a tu madre.
Y desde aquel momento ese discÃpulo la recibió en su casa.
Muerte de Jesús
28 Después de esto, como Jesús sabÃa que ya todo habÃa terminado, y para que se cumpliera la Escritura, dijo:
--Tengo sed.
29 HabÃa allà una vasija llena de vinagre; asà que empaparon una esponja en el vinagre, la pusieron en una caña y se la acercaron a la boca. 30
Al probar Jesús el vinagre, dijo:
--Todo se ha cumplido.
Luego inclinó la cabeza y entregó el espÃritu.
31 Era el dÃa de la preparación para la Pascua. Los judÃos no querÃan que los cuerpos permanecieran en la cruz en sábado, por ser éste un dÃa
muy solemne. Asà que le pidieron a Pilato ordenar que les quebraran las piernas a los crucificados y bajaran sus cuerpos. 32 Fueron entonces
los soldados y le quebraron las piernas al primer hombre que habÃa sido crucificado con Jesús, y luego al otro. 33 Pero cuando se acercaron a
Jesús y vieron que ya estaba muerto, no le quebraron las piernas, 34 sino que uno de los soldados le abrió el costado con una lanza, y al
instante le brotó sangre y agua. 35 El que lo vio ha dado testimonio de ello, y su testimonio es verÃdico. Él sabe que dice la verdad, para que
también ustedes crean. 36 Estas cosas sucedieron para que se cumpliera la Escritura: "No le quebrarán ningún hueso" 37 y, como dice otra
Escritura: "Mirarán al que han traspasado."
Sepultura de Jesús
38 Después de esto, José de Arimatea le pidió a Pilato el cuerpo de Jesús. José era discÃpulo de Jesús, aunque en secreto por miedo a los
judÃos. Con el permiso de Pilato, fue y retiró el cuerpo. 39 También Nicodemo, el que antes habÃa visitado a Jesús de noche, llegó con unos
treinta y cuatro kilos de una mezcla de mirra y áloe. 40 Ambos tomaron el cuerpo de Jesús y, conforme a la costumbre judÃa de dar sepultura, lo
envolvieron en vendas con las especias aromáticas. 41 En el lugar donde crucificaron a Jesús habÃa un huerto, y en el huerto un sepulcro nuevo
en el que todavÃa no se habÃa sepultado a nadie. 42 Como era el dÃa judÃo de la preparación, y el sepulcro estaba cerca, pusieron allà a Jesús.

El sepulcro vacÃo
El primer dÃa de la semana, muy de mañana, cuando todavÃa estaba oscuro, MarÃa Magdalena fue al sepulcro y vio que habÃan quitado la piedra que cubrÃa la entrada. 2 Asà que fue corriendo a ver a Simón Pedro y al otro discÃpulo, a quien Jesús amaba, y les dijo:
--¡Se han llevado del sepulcro al Señor, y no sabemos dónde lo han puesto!
3 Pedro y el otro discÃpulo se dirigieron entonces al sepulcro. 4 Ambos fueron corriendo, pero como el otro discÃpulo corrÃa más aprisa que Pedro, llegó primero al sepulcro. 5 Inclinándose, se asomó y vio allà las vendas, pero no entró. 6 Tras él llegó Simón Pedro, y entró en el sepulcro. Vio allà las vendas 7 y el sudario que habÃa cubierto la cabeza de Jesús, aunque el sudario no estaba con las vendas sino enrollado en un lugar aparte. 8 En ese momento entró también el otro discÃpulo, el que habÃa llegado primero al sepulcro; y vio y creyó. 9 Hasta entonces no habÃan entendido la Escritura, que dice que Jesús tenÃa que resucitar.
Jesús se aparece a MarÃa Magdalena
10 Los discÃpulos regresaron a su casa, 11 pero MarÃa se quedó afuera, llorando junto al sepulcro. Mientras lloraba, se inclinó para mirar dentro del sepulcro, 12 y vio a dos ángeles vestidos de blanco, sentados donde habÃa estado el cuerpo de Jesús, uno a la cabecera y otro a los pies.
13 --¿Por qué lloras, mujer? -- le preguntaron los ángeles.
--Es que se han llevado a mi Señor, y no sé dónde lo han puesto --les respondió.
14 Apenas dijo esto, volvió la mirada y allà vio a Jesús de pie, aunque no sabÃa que era él. 15 Jesús le dijo:
--¿Por qué lloras, mujer? ¿A quién buscas?
Ella, pensando que se trataba del que cuidaba el huerto, le dijo:
--Señor, si usted se lo ha llevado, dÃgame dónde lo ha puesto, y yo iré por él.
16 --MarÃa --le dijo Jesús.
Ella se volvió y exclamó:
--¡Raboni! (que en arameo significa: Maestro).
17 --Suéltame, porque todavÃa no he vuelto al Padre. Ve más bien a mis hermanos y diles: “Vuelvo a mi Padre, que es Padre de ustedes; a mi Dios, que es Dios de ustedes.â€
18 MarÃa Magdalena fue a darles la noticia a los discÃpulos. "¡He visto al Señor!", exclamaba, y les contaba lo que él le habÃa dicho.
Jesús se aparece a sus discÃpulos
19 Al atardecer de aquel primer dÃa de la semana, estando reunidos los discÃpulos a puerta cerrada por temor a los judÃos, entró Jesús y, poniéndose en medio de ellos, los saludó.
--¡La paz sea con ustedes!
20 Dicho esto, les mostró las manos y el costado. Al ver al Señor, los discÃpulos se alegraron.
21 --¡La paz sea con ustedes! --repitió Jesús--. Como el Padre me envió a mÃ, asà yo los envÃo a ustedes.
22 Acto seguido, sopló sobre ellos y les dijo:
--Reciban el EspÃritu Santo. 23 A quienes les perdonen sus pecados, les serán perdonados; a quienes no se los perdonen, no les serán perdonados.
Jesús se aparece a Tomás
24 Tomás, al que apodaban el Gemelo, y que era uno de los doce, no estaba con los discÃpulos cuando llegó Jesús. 25 Asà que los otros discÃpulos le dijeron:
--¡Hemos visto al Señor!
--Mientras no vea yo la marca de los clavos en sus manos, y meta mi dedo en las marcas y mi mano en su costado, no lo creeré --repuso Tomás.
26 Una semana más tarde estaban los discÃpulos de nuevo en la casa, y Tomás estaba con ellos. Aunque las puertas estaban cerradas, Jesús entró y, poniéndose en medio de ellos, los saludó.
--¡La paz sea con ustedes!
27 Luego le dijo a Tomás:
--Pon tu dedo aquà y mira mis manos. Acerca tu mano y métela en mi costado. Y no seas incrédulo, sino hombre de fe.
28 --¡Señor mÃo y Dios mÃo! --exclamó Tomás.
29 --Porque me has visto, has creÃdo --le dijo Jesús--; dichosos los que no han visto y sin embargo creen.
30 Jesús hizo muchas otras señales milagrosas en presencia de sus discÃpulos, las cuales no están registradas en este libro. 31 Pero éstas se han escrito para que ustedes crean que Jesús es el Cristo, el Hijo de Dios, y para que al creer en su nombre tengan vida.

Jesús y la pesca milagrosa
Después de esto Jesús se apareció de nuevo a sus discÃpulos, junto al lago de TiberÃades. Sucedió de esta manera: 2 Estaban juntos Simón Pedro, Tomás (al que apodaban el Gemelo), Natanael, el de Caná de Galilea, los hijos de Zebedeo, y otros dos discÃpulos.
3 --Me voy a pescar --dijo Simón Pedro.
--Nos vamos contigo --contestaron ellos.
Salieron, pues, de allà y se embarcaron, pero esa noche no pescaron nada.
4 Al despuntar el alba Jesús se hizo presente en la orilla, pero los discÃpulos no se dieron cuenta de que era él.
5 --Muchachos, ¿no tienen algo de comer? --les preguntó Jesús.
--No --respondieron ellos.
6 --Tiren la red a la derecha de la barca, y pescarán algo.
Asà lo hicieron, y era tal la cantidad de pescados que ya no podÃan sacar la red.
7 --¡Es el Señor! --dijo a Pedro el discÃpulo a quien Jesús amaba.
Tan pronto como Simón Pedro le oyó decir: "Es el Señor", se puso la ropa, pues estaba semidesnudo, y se tiró al agua. 8 Los otros discÃpulos lo siguieron en la barca, arrastrando la red llena de pescados, pues estaban a escasos cien metros de la orilla. 9 Al desembarcar, vieron unas brasas con un pescado encima, y un pan.
10 --Traigan algunos de los pescados que acaban de sacar --les dijo Jesús.
11 Simón Pedro subió a bordo y arrastró hasta la orilla la red, la cual estaba llena de pescados de buen tamaño. Eran ciento cincuenta y tres, pero a pesar de ser tantos la red no se rompió.
12 --Vengan a desayunar --les dijo Jesús.
Ninguno de los discÃpulos se atrevÃa a preguntarle: "¿Quién eres tú?", porque sabÃan que era el Señor. 13 Jesús se acercó, tomó el pan y se lo dio a ellos, e hizo lo mismo con el pescado. 14 Ésta fue la tercera vez que Jesús se apareció a sus discÃpulos después de haber resucitado.
Jesús restituye a Pedro
15 Cuando terminaron de desayunar, Jesús le preguntó a Simón Pedro:
--Simón, hijo de Juan, ¿me amas más que éstos?
--SÃ, Señor, tú sabes que te quiero --contestó Pedro.
--Apacienta mis corderos --le dijo Jesús.
16 Y volvió a preguntarle:
--Simón, hijo de Juan, ¿me amas?
--SÃ, Señor, tú sabes que te quiero.
--Cuida de mis ovejas.
17 Por tercera vez Jesús le preguntó:
--Simón, hijo de Juan, ¿me quieres?
A Pedro le dolió que por tercera vez Jesús le hubiera preguntado: "¿Me quieres?" Asà que le dijo:
--Señor, tú lo sabes todo; tú sabes que te quiero.
--Apacienta mis ovejas --le dijo Jesús--. 18 De veras te aseguro que cuando eras más joven te vestÃas tú mismo e ibas adonde querÃas; pero cuando seas viejo, extenderás las manos y otro te vestirá y te llevará adonde no quieras ir.
19 Esto dijo Jesús para dar a entender la clase de muerte con que Pedro glorificarÃa a Dios. Después de eso añadió:
--¡SÃgueme!
20 Al volverse, Pedro vio que los seguÃa el discÃpulo a quien Jesús amaba, el mismo que en la cena se habÃa reclinado sobre Jesús y le habÃa dicho: "Señor, ¿quién es el que va a traicionarte?" 21 Al verlo, Pedro preguntó:
--Señor, ¿y éste, qué?
22 --Si quiero que él permanezca vivo hasta que yo vuelva, ¿a ti qué? Tú sÃgueme no más.
23 Por este motivo corrió entre los hermanos el rumor de que aquel discÃpulo no morirÃa. Pero Jesús no dijo que no morirÃa, sino solamente: "Si quiero que él permanezca vivo hasta que yo vuelva, ¿a ti qué?"
24 Éste es el discÃpulo que da testimonio de estas cosas, y las escribió. Y estamos convencidos de que su testimonio es verÃdico.
25 Jesús hizo también muchas otras cosas, tantas que, si se escribiera cada una de ellas, pienso que los libros escritos no cabrÃan en el mundo entero. |
