Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. Yes. Not within my lifetime, probably by seti-like technology. The benefits are great, since I suspect that extraterrestial life will be very hostile towards such a strong competitor as homo sapiens (which I beleve can be deduced from the theory of evolution).

2. No, see last sentence above.

3. I believe space colonization is crucial for the long time survival of mankind. Seti is a part of the research needed to make such exploration and colonization possible.
