Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Hello, My name is Jerry Elmore I’m 41 years old and happily married to Xanthia, and we are expecting our first Rug Rat Nov. 11th. I’m an Industrial Electrician, and work for Vintage Pharmaceuticals in Huntsville Alabama. A gambler would love to have these kinds of odds at the Track.
And who can say that our Universe is the only Universe, there may be billions more.
Do I think extraterrestrial life exists?-- Absolutely, the odds are that the Universe is teaming with life. A gambler would love to have these kinds of odds at the Track. And who can say that our Universe is the only Universe, there may be billions more. At one time we believed their was only one galaxy, Now we know there are billions.
When and how will humans discover it?-- When?, we will know that when it happens. How?, Don't know, but we have three big problems to work out, Space, Time, and Speed.
What are the possible benefits and dangers of such a discovery?-- The benefits are great, we can learn so much about ourselves just by knowing that life truly
exists on other planets. The dangers of finding life on another planet, and communicating with them is going to be very, very Dangerous. They may have a very Different Idea of what it wants to know about us, like do we taste better with ketchup or mustard.
Should humans transmit a beacon for others to find?-- No, lets check them out first, its to dangerous.
Why do I run SETI@home?-- I want to help the SETI project because, its something I believe in, and doing something towards the big question. Is their life out there?
