Personal background
I am so far left I'm falling off the love train. I am a believer in truth and logic. I like things that I can make sense of. I would like to say I'm not superstitious but some things just carry through families don't they? I'm at least less so than others I know. #FeelTheBern

My primary motivation in every breath I take is my children and grand-children with the rest of my family taking a close second. I still try to have a cup of coffee with my Mom a few times a week and I like to hang out at my sister's place (especially when her boyfriend is cooking). I like to play card and board games with my baby brother and I like to listen to my other brother play music. We're a pretty tight group and I think that's a good thing.

I like renaissance faires, sci-fi conventions, concerts, cosplay and all things geektastic. I got to attend the 48th Star Trek Convention in Vegas with my best friend in 2014 and I'm hoping to go again for the 50th. I just need to shed a few pounds so I can get back into my uniform!

I collect hobbies... I have tried just about every textile art there is at one point or another. Do not take this to mean that I am chock full of creativity - the real deal is that I get bored easily. But my kids love this because we always have oodles of art supplies to do stuff with on weekends! I may also have a weird addiction to paper and writing utensils... I'm gonna get that checked.

I LOVE to read... I have about 5000 books in my personal library at last count and nary a paycheck goes by that doesn't get hit by a book purchase. I HATE reading online though... I want to have a real book in my hands!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I have been working in IT for 20+ years. I have multiple computers that always have free cycles that can be used for the betterment of society. I share my PC and laptop with the World Community Grid, MindModeling and SETI.

In regards to World Community Grid and MindModeling, I really hope my few CPU cycles can help change the world by curing cancer, fighting climate change or better understanding ourselves.

In regards to SETI, I would agree with Stephen Hawking on both points... an Alien species is likely “looking to conquer and colonize whatever planets they could reach” BUT we search because “We are alive. We are intelligent. We must know,”.
