Personal background
Hi! I'm Alvaro Maurin. I'm 22 years old (birthdate January 26th, 1979), Chilean. Currently I'm at University of Chile studying Hydraulics Engineering (5th year out of six, almost done!). My hobbies are astronomy, learning about phylosophic themes like "life" "universe" "God", and other brain-squeezing subjects, I've been an amateur rock guitarist for 12 years, and know I am a violin student, very inspired and anxious to have the time to improve my playing. Bye! and good signal hunting! we are NOT alone!!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Yes, I do think extraterrestial life exists, but I don't know if we will able to meet them; space is infinite, but so is time, so...
Benefits of the discovery: If both civilizations are willing to cooperate, tremendous, unparalleled benefits, technologically, morally and religiously speaking.
Of course we should transmit a beacon, it's like a message in a bottle, someone WILL find it, somewhere, sometime. Maybe we should send, mmm....MUSIC! of course!! A great load of Vivaldi, Mozart and Beethoven, pictures of our beautiful planet, and, like Ellie in Contact, some proof that we can "speak" the universal language: Math.
I run Seti@home because it's an easy way to help you guys with the electro-magnetic spectrum analysis, and because I believe in the power of numbers:like an integral; the area under a single point is zero, but the whole integral can reach the infinite!.
