Q: Why do I run SETI@home?
I'm not a Scientist, so I can't do anything directly to help the Scientific progress of our species.....if my unused processing power helps, I'm thrilled to donate it to the SETI cause!
Q: What are my views about the (SETI) project?
SETI is the only realistic organisation, based on real Science & not crazy abduction X-Files nonsense, who are taking the search for Extra Terrestrial life seriously.
Discovering other intelligent life forms will be the most significant event in human history.
My deepest hope is that discovering other advanced beings will force our culture to mature away from the mythology and irrationality that is crippling our world today.
If we found other intelligent life out there the media would go nuts and Scientist would finally get as much attention as Reality TV Celebrities - in short, we'd have the opportunity to step up our game as a species.
More Science funding, the bravery to discuss real problems like False Religion, overpopulation & the development of a Scientific resource based economy, etc.
Plus: If we had access to Alien internet / TV that would be cool!
Q: Any suggestions?
Scientifically, I don't know enough to comment....
Marketing and ease of use could do with a bit of work though: The whole SETI project & the SETI@home software looks a little dated and out of touch - this doesn't put me off one bit but young people would probably like a cooler looking app to show off and share with their mates.
I run SETI@HOME on my home office computers: 2 Macs which are running most of the day - I'll be adding more over time. |
