Why do you run SETI@home?
I can finally put my computer to some use other than email & games (home), or stock info (work)... something grander, and larger than us
Thoughts about ETI
I think they are out there, doubt they know we are here and may not even care. Some of the signals we may get will be from long dead civilizations, but at least we will know we are not alone.
As to what it will do to humanity? Religion(s) will change, I don't doubt that after the annoucement there will be rashes of suicides, cult & individual. Will we all stop fighting with each other? Not likely, but there will be a new thing to make people "think outside the box", possibly the start of a new "age" (Sounds so damn hippy!)
