thanks for all for responding. I have done some experimenting and I can run CPU at around 80% and keep it in a normal operating range 70-80. For games I play I just have it set to turn off when they are operating. The fan in this laptop is lauder then most desktops i have owned its kinda impressive.

My computer tends to get really hot when I play games I can only assume that the GPU is causing this since most games are ont really CPU heavy.

To extend the life of my computer what should i limit the CPU too(50%?) or does it matter?

It is a dell XPS

hey all im new to crunching and only have a laptop to do it on. The project I have decided to support is seti@home.

I use this computer for mainly playing computer games like world of warcraft an surfing the web. My question is how much resources should I allocate to not affect computer to preform well and keep heat low as I want this computer to last.

I saw about this program on discovery channel and want to do my part in it!
