That was fun. glad the data sorted itself out and we got #31.

I was keeping it current during the event for the most part with no cache. I tried in the last 12 hours to increase my cache to try and get some resends, but it didn't work, so I will be running MCM for a few more days to finish off what I downloading.

What happened?? that was weird. guess people on other teams bunkered... I can see doing it the week before, really don't see the reason to do it during.
oh well. It was still fun.
Now to go back to trying to get my year badge in ARP

edit: something weird happened. we were over 1 million now we are less than 900k.

#33 yeah!

I do wish I had started earlier, and I'll remember that next year. I cheer for every resend I get.

ACK! just aborted a WU that had run 18 hours. I have run a bunch of these WUs but this is my first encounter with the "endless" WU. I did do as suggested in the thread and change my setting to 100% usage. Hopefully I won't have anymore "endless" ones, but I'll keep a closer eye on it now.

I think we can move our team up a couple more slots :-)

edit to add: Yeah! #34 now

Thanks for signing the team up for this Sirius B. I'm having fun with this.

The link to the thread on WCG was useful. There seem to be two types of MCM WUs (LOO and NFCV) and on my machine they have different run times. Hopefully I'll get more credit for the longer running ones.

I've gone from 3 hour run time to 6 hour run time per MCM. Are some WUs just more intense, or a setting issue?

I'm surprised they aren't validating quicker as well. I'm finally getting resends which are helpful as they usually already have a result waiting to be validated.

Thanks for setting this up GS.

The transition at WCG is starting to have some bumps.

I'm mainly doing African Rainfall Project WUs and lately they have been easy to get, so I haven't needed to have any cache at all, but now I do need to have one or two spare, but I can't have more than 2 running at a time.

I've had to write my first app_config file. It was so fun. I haven't needed an app_config file before as the manager had all the settings I needed until now.

It is finally starting to cool down here and I can run the machine a bit more and not worry about it getting too warm, and this is when they do the transition?? ha.

Hi ! Thanks for the congrats for my badges. I'm a bit bummed by the new forums at WCG, but like others, I'm giving it time to settle.

I do like the badge system over at WCG. The early badges come fairly quickly, and then there is a long long time between the yearly ones. Since I'm a hobby cruncher I'm just trying to get to a year in all the projects I can. I'll probably need a script to time my request if I ever want any of the TB tasks though (only 300/day ??)

Just dropped the last kid at university (computer engineering), and I'll be working on my resume to see if anyone wants to hire a rusty programmer/admin. On the bright side it might give me access to more machines (I'll ask permission of course) to run boinc projects on.

I do miss our seti discussions.

I'm still here. I've subscribed to a couple of threads so I get notified in boinc when there are new posts. I miss this place. The joy of lots of work, the wondering how long Tuesday's maintenance/backup window would be, and the shared frustration of down time. It made me feel like part of a clan. I don't crunch much with one slow machine, but still there was a place for me. I don't know when I'll feel that again. I crunch at World Community Grid. I'm on a team. I love the monthly updates from the scientists. I love the silly badges, but this is still where I know I can get computer help/ boinc help quickly.

I hope everyone is doing ok. This world is so weird now. Stay safe and keep crunching and come back to tell the tales

p.s. I got my gold badge in openpandemics on WCG

Congrats on your badges Tullio! I'm really close to getting the gold one in Covid. The badges do add a bit of fun to the crunching.

I think that the African Rain Fall project from World Community Grid is getting some "churn" in systems.

I kicked it back up to "unlimited" along with the Conv19 project's unlimited.

And more than half of what I have been processing are re-sends.

I am getting 01, 02, and even 03 files.

Tom M

This doesn't surprise me. Those WUs take a long time on my system and with all the newbies the covid project dragged in, I'm sure there are a bunch of newbies trying to figure out settings and queue lengths.

I finally got my silver badge in Covid. At some point I'll go back to AR and earn my bronze (half way there).

My RAC is now 98. Not sure how much longer I will be allowed to post. So I thought I'd say Hi and I miss Seti. When I say I miss Seti, part of that is missing all you people who posted here. The silly arguments, the cool ideas, the fun interaction. I'm at WCG now. The program runs too well. Not much to gripe or complain about, so just discussions on the projects themselves. I hope they get the gpu program for the open pandemic project done soon as I know that would make it more interesting to a majority of you.

Just got my first badge at WCG. It made me happier than I thought. It is nice to have the badges of recognition on the forums, kinda like our stars et al. here.

Just popping in to say hi.

Thanks for the info on WCG. I'm now running 50/50 Rosetta/OpenPandemic.

The WCG WUs are nice and short (2 hours).

Does anyone know what happens now if any of the remaining work units time out? Do they resend them to other people? Angie.
If the WU still hasn't Validated, yep.

I'm guessing that the number of WUs that haven't validated is really low. Each computer only gets a once a day chance to ask (lottery ticket).
Possible to get a resend but not likely.

I'm still bouncing between new projects trying to find a home. I'm also thinking of taking a break as it is summer here and the added heat is not wanted.
I'm back at rosetta as the boards have familiar names posting to them. Looks like I missed all the bruhaha over there. The covid project also makes me feel useful. WCG still doesn't have their covid project up yet.
