Yikes - Do all computers die at the same time?
(Message 1822783)
Posted 8 Oct 2016 by Ghani Post: My Alienware (the original from when Dell purchased Alienware ~ 2006) finally gave up. It was stripped of everything but the OS & Boinc, my MacAir died in August (new in 2009) and I fear my iMac (new in 2009) is not far behind - the disk is partiioned so maybe that is the problem with the random CPU issues. There was a Dell LT that also was a weather underground station that ran BOINC, but it failed over a year ago. So on to new and hopefully a machine that will outlive me. Upgrade to OS X 10.10 issue
(Message 1626819)
Posted 12 Jan 2015 by Ghani Post: I upgraded my iMac (circa 2009) to OS X10.10.1 and BOINC 7.4.36 BOINC seems to be working no problem. I upgraded my MacBook Air OS X to 10.10.1 (younger than the iMAC) and to BoincManager 7.4.36. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling on the LT. The air, which always ran without problems now sits waiting with a message "Retrieving current status" I am not sure where to look, clearly I am not a power user, but something changed during one of the installs. Any ideas from the software gurus? Many thanks if I can get this up and running again. kj |

IMac & MacBook Air - Air isn't getting data
(Message 1179761)
Posted 21 Dec 2011 by Ghani Post: First, I am not a computer techie, but a user of computers and programmer (petro related) since before some of you were born. The point is I understand, but some of the Boinc software/hardware discussions are way past my knowledge base. As an aside, I tried to get my son's machine to run last summer and had the same problem (he has some seriously powerful computing capability at the house.) If I can get the Air to work I'll go back and try his machine again :-D My iMac has been crunching away for awhile and I thought well the Air has even less daily use, so why not crunch on the Air. However, I've tried everything I know to get the Air to download data to no avail. Am I missing a setting, sharing, permissions.....I've looked at them all? Any and all comments are appreciated and taken in the spirit in which they are given. The MacBook Air is: GenuineIntel Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E7600 @ 3.06GHz [x86 Family 6 Model 23 Stepping 10] (2 processors) The IMac is: GenuineIntel Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU U9600 @ 1.60GHz [x86 Family 6 Model 23 Stepping 10] (2 processors) Many Thanks, karenj aka Ghani |
